As I was out in Switzerland this weekend I thought I’d take a look at something truly exciting to come out of Geneva in the world of toys. Interactive Toy Gaming Hybrid “Oniri Islands – Children of the River”.
The race to create the next big thing in augmented reality has well and truly begun in force in the world of toys. The team at Tourmaline Studio is close to completing a slick integration of real-life toy figures, Mina and Tim, two figures that interact with the world that they explore, and that can change the way they interact through attachable equipment such as the powerful magical animal masks they discover causing the app world that they engage with to bend to these unique features.
Mina and Tim must find hidden items and solve puzzles to earn these unique masks that have special powers when they are physically placed onto the characters!
Right now the company is crowdfunding with a launch date set in November, but their target should be met soon given the enthusiasm from kids and parents for toy gaming hybrids that are in many ways more physically and mentally engaging than either a video game or toy alone.
At Rebl Toys, we think this is going to be a huge turning point and a big return in popularity for board games both old and new. By making or updating them to be more interactive they achieve the cool factor and have far more potential scenarios, instant visuals and sound feedback while escaping the sometimes cold and detached feel of video games.
The starter pack is set for a release price of $35 on both Apple and Android tablets. We can’t wait to get our hands on this to test it once it’s released! 🙂
